I am not a fan of canned curriculum. It has some benefits and is relatively easy to teach, but there is a lack of differentiation for different learners and the activities for practice are often shallow. Treasures has some fun stories and themes but they are really lacking in their activities to practice the essential learning. The activities are often shallow and don’t change from first grade to fifth grade. The same copy from the dictionary activity is suggested for learning vocabulary for every unit in every grade level. I created the Treasures supplement as a way to help teachers provide students with multiple ways of practicing the essential learnings. I just finished the supplement for unit 1. This is the supplement for first through fifth grade.

Kelly, that is a wonderful resource! Even if teachers don’t use Treasures, there are ideas for activities they can adapt for their own curricula.

This is a great collection. We also use the Treasures series, and I like the stories and many of the activities, but this is a great way to incorporate more technology. I am not a huge fan of the technology activities that are on the McGraw Hill website.

Hi Jonathan, I’m glad that you and the school enjoyed them. I have Units 1, 4, 5, and part of 6 done and posted here (search Treasures to find them). I don’t have plans for units 2 and 3 right now because they are so time consuming and I’m not being paid to do them. That isn’t to say that I won’t end up tackling them…I add to those units a little at a time.
I am amazed by the amount of hard work you have put here. I’m an EFL teacher in Brazil, and I’ll also benefit from the way you layed the activities out. Thank you!
